White Captures National Pole Vault Title

Athletes from the Club were competing at both ends of the age spectrum over the weekend, at National Championships.

The under 15 and 17 age group championships took place at Bedford, across both Saturday and Sunday. Lucinda White won the under 15 girls Pole Vault and at the same time set a new Tonbridge club record of 3.16 metres. This added six centimetres to the previous record that she shared with Laura-Ann Henderson. Anton Bachorski was the only other athlete, from the club, to finish in the top six of a final when he ran 10.93 for 100 metres, in the under 17 age group, after a 10.98 heat.

Meanwhile, at Birmingham, a number of the club’s veteran athletes claimed medals at their National Championships. Steve Tester won the over 35 men’s 400 metres in 52.62 and new club member Robert MacKenzie took the over 80 age group 100 metres title with a 17.79 clocking, setting a Tonbridge AC age record.

Silver medals were won by Lisa Knight, in the over 45 women’s 400 metres, in 67.61 and Ben Reynolds, who missed out on the over 50 men’s, 5000 metres title by a second, recording 16.20.

Nicky Buckwell was 4th in the over 60 women’s 100 metres, equalling her own club record with 16.40.
