Sprinters On Form at New Year's Day Opener

Three sprinters from the Club competed at the Lee Valley New Year Open Meeting on Monday, showing excellent form.

The highlight came from Jack Lennard, over 60 metres, as he smashed the Tonbridge senior men's club record, recording 7.04 to win one race, before returning to the track to improve to 7.01 later. The previous record had been set by Chris Ford, with 7.17, five years ago. He also ran his first ever 200 metres indoors and recorded 22.69.

Lennard moved to Tonbridge in the last few months, having been previously based in Liverpool and is showing great promise for this year.

In the under 15 age group Zachary Nwogwugwu ran two 60 metre races and won them both in times of 7.37 and 7.47, the former being just one hundredth of a second from his personal best and own Tonbridge age record. Scott Thomson ran an outright personal best of 53.85 in the senior men's 400 metres.

Also on New Year's Day Angel Lopez-Cáceres and Sasha Houghton won the male and female categories at the Lamberhurst 10km race. Relatively new TAC recruit Lopez-Cácéres ran 35.01 on the very hilly course, with Dan Bradley second in 36.27. John Ridge was 17th in 42.49 to complete the winning team score. Sasha Houghton took home the first female prize with 43.26, whilst her sister Nina Ridge was first female in the 5km in 25.27.
