Weekend Report - 9th/10th September 2017

Tonbridge Duo Take Eridge Park 10 Trail Victories

The Club’s men and women scored a double one-two, at the Eridge Ten Mile Trail Challenge on Sunday, as Ben Cole and Lucy Reid swept to victories, ahead of team mates. The event is both popular and tough, involving an undulating course, across the countryside of Eridge Park.

Cole, who had been in good form recently with a fast track 10km and a half marathon win at Swindon, won in 63.13, with team mate Julian Rendall in second with 64.28. Rendall was the first of the over 40 age group home.

Like Cole, Lucy Reid has also been in cracking form in recent weeks, with both track and road personal bests over 5km. Reid won in 69.45 to become the first female to dip under the 70 minute barrier, in the nineteen year history of the race. She finished forty seconds clear of another Tonbridge runner, Nicole Taylor.

Tonbridge completed the men’s team win with Jack Keywood finishing 11th in 73.20, whilst the women’s team also sealed victory through Lottie Richardson in 91.08. Steve Keywood won the over 50 age category, placing 18th overall in 78.11.

The club also had a number competing for the Kent under 15 and 20 teams, at the South of England Inter Counties, held at Horspath, near Oxford, on Saturday.

Becky O’Hara produced a fine win in the under 20 women’s 400 metres in 57.58, whilst there were a number of other medal winning performances from the club’s athletes. Phoebe Barker was the only other under 20 medalist, as she placed third over 1500 metres in 4.43.02. Then in the under 15 girls category there was a string of second places. These came from Maisie Rixon over 200 metres in 26.39, Rebekah O’Brien in the 800 metres, with a new personal best of 2.19.22 and Catherine Davies in the Pole Vault with 2.60 metres.

Sophie and Lily Slack took part in the Great North Junior Runs, at Newcastle, on Saturday, over four kilometres. Sophie Slack finished third in the under 13 event, in 15.46, whilst sister Lily won the under 11 race in 15.33.

This coming weekend Saturday 16th/Sunday 17th September, the Club will have members in action at the Kent under 13, veterans and combined events championships, at Erith, plus teams taking part in the Blackheath and Bromley Cross Country Relays, at West Wickham.
