Skinner Selected for World Para Athletics Championships

It has just been announced (7 June) that Zak Skinner has been selected to compete for Great Britain and N Ireland at the World Para Athletic Championships to be held at the Olympic Stadium in London from 14 – 23 July 2017

Zak, who is 18 and completing his A Levels at Judd School, will be competing in the 100m and long jump in the T13 (visually impaired category).

In November 2016, Zak was invited to participate in the British Athletics 2016-17 Talent Development Squad, which aims to identify athletes who will compete for GB in the next 4 to 8 years with a possible near term goal being the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.  Zak, however, made outstanding progress over the past 12 months, which has led to his selection for the World Championships as his first international event.

In 2016, Zak competed in the decathlon where, in spite of his visual impairment, he finished 6th in the English Schools’ championships and was ranked 13th overall in the UK.  Over the past winter he focused on training specifically for the sprint events and long jump and excelled in indoor competitions.  He transferred this to the outdoor season and has rewritten all his lifetime best performances from 60m to 400m and long jump.
