Weekend Report - 1st/2nd April 2017

Rendall on form at Paddock Wood Half Marathon

It was another varied weekend of non-championship racing for Tonbridge Athletic Club members.

Locally the Paddock Wood Half Marathon was the main event, held on Sunday and Julian Rendall led a small number of the club’s members home, when he finished ninth overall in 70.51. This was just seventeen seconds away from his seven-year old personal best, over the distance. Photo courtesy of Steve Keywood.

Also on Sunday the Knole Park 10k was held at Sevenoaks, with James Stoney in fifth being first home for Tonbridge in 38.00, with Luke Reeves ninth in 39.53. Claire Day was 24th overall and third lady home in 41.58, on the tough multi-terrain course.

Greg Cole travelled to Berlin for the Half Marathon on Sunday and recorded a personal best by exactly a minute, with a fine 72.48 in the top quality race.

Dan Bradley was tenth at the Victoria Park 5 mile road race in London, on Saturday, recording 26.57.

The track action came in the USA, where two club members are based at university. Luca Russo won a 1500 metres at Palo Alto, in California, on Friday with a big personal best of 3.46.47 and then won again in San Francisco, on Saturday, over 800 metres in 1.52.84, which was again a pb. Ryan Driscoll also continued his good form in the States, finishing fourth in a 3000 metres steeplechase, also at Palo Alto, on Friday. Unluckily for Driscoll he was brought down at the first water jump, by another athlete, but got up to finish well. He ran 8.56.99, which was just a fraction of a second away from his personal best and two seconds away from the Tonbridge club record.

This coming weekend, on Saturday 8th April, Tonbridge AC will have men’s and women’s teams in the National Road Relay Championships, at Sutton Coldfield.
