Weekend Report - 4th/5th March 2017
Cole Runs Fast Ten Kilometres
It was a quiet weekend of performances for Tonbridge Athletic Club, although some action on both the roads and cross country.
On Sunday Ben Cole ran 30.34 to finish 24th in the Trafford 10k road race, near Manchester. The event is one of the highest class races, over the distance, in the UK and produced fast times, despite the less than favourable wet and windy conditions. Cole was just twelve seconds away from his two-year old personal best.
Steve Fennell and Greg Cole were both selected to run for Kent in the Inter Counties 20 miles, which was incorporated in the Essex 20. Both Fennell and Cole were using the race as part of their build up towards the London Marathon. Fennell finished 6th in 1.55.00 and Cole 20th in 1.59.25.
Charlie Joslin-Allen, racing for Cardiff Met University continued his good form, after the previous week’s National Championships, by finishing third in the Gwent Cross Country League, at Llanelli.
This coming weekend, on Saturday 11th March, a number of Tonbridge runners will be competing for the county in the UK Inter Counties Championships, at Loughborough. On Sunday 12th March the Club will host the final Junior 1 mile races of the season, on Tonbridge School fields. These are open to any 4 to 12 year olds who wish to try and run a mile. Entry is at 2pm, with races starting at 2.30pm - click here for details. A medal is awarded to each finisher.
