Open Meeting Report - 26th November 2016
Personal Bests and Club Records Indoors at Lee Valley
Five Tonbridge AC athletes competed at the Lee Valley Open Meeting on 26th November. The early season meeting gave the athletes an opportunity to gauge how winter training is progressing and a chance to run indoors away from the cold weather.
Zak Skinner a T13 athlete has had a good start to the year having been selected to the part of the British Athletics Talent Development Squad as he is seen as having potential to be selected for the Tokyo Paralympic Team. He opened his season with a 6.09m long jump and then followed this with a personal best of 7.46s for the 60m.
Lewis Church entered 3 events at Lee Valley and the time-table resulted in him in having a busy afternoon. He won the long jump with 6.46m and then won the pole vault of 4.20m, equaling his indoor best and finally ran 7.62 and 7.69 in the 2 rounds of the 60m.
David Coleman, better known as a member of the British Bobsleigh team and a discus thrower, competed in his first 60m indoor races and ran an excellent time of 7.73s. Richard Christian (V50) competed in the 300m and produced a club record of 44.5s
Two athletes competed in the 600m, Katie Burgess (U15) ran a new personal best of 1:45.98 and Richard Christian finished with a time of 1:50.55, and another club record.
Joe Fuggle who finished the season ranked number 1 in the UK U20 400m hurdles stepped down in distance to compete for the first time in the U20 60m sprint hurdles. In the first race he ran cautiously for a time of 8.78s for second place but then ran more aggressively to win the second round in 8.66s
