Weekend Report - 2nd October 2016
Rendall and Bradley Go 1-2 at Tonbridge Half Marathon
Tonbridge Athletic Club had a few members taking part in the Tonbridge Half Marathon on Sunday and provided the first two runners home in Julian Rendall and Dan Bradley.
Both Rendall and Bradley are past winners of the event, with the former enjoying victories in 2012 and 2014, whilst Bradley won in 2015, then relegating Rendall to second.
On this occasion they were locked together for most of the first half of the race, going through five miles in around 28 minutes. It was Rendall who pulled away in the second half to win in 74.29, with Bradley recording 74.53, reversing last year’s positions.
Sixty three year old Sally Musson continues to defy her age and was the first over 55 age group lady home, with a time of 97.04.
Other club members finishing were Ollie Kingston in 87.56, Chris Everett in 97.36, Duncan Ralph in 1.44.28 and Lucy Pitcairn-Knowles with 1.45.02.
Also on Sunday, Tonbridge held the first of their junior 1 mile races, this season, at Tonbridge School. As in previous years these are put on as a low key introduction to running, for anyone of twelve years old or younger. On Sunday there were over fifty runners, the youngest of which was five years old and each finisher received a medal.
The fastest boy on the day was Sam Collinson, who is a Tonbridge AC member and ran 6.10, whilst the fastest girl was nine-year old Penny Horne, of St Johns School.
The next race in the series will be on Saturday 29th October, at The Schools at Somerhill, with entry registration at 10.30am.
This weekend Tonbridge take a large squad of athletes, from across the age groups, to the National Road Relay Championships, at Sutton Coldfield.
