Tonbridge Men Win Eridge 10 Mile Challenge

It was a relatively quiet week for Tonbridge Athletic Club, as the Summer season draws to a close and crosses over to the Autumn events.

At the Eridge 10 mile Trail Challenge on Sunday morning, Julian Rendall led the Tonbridge men’s team to a victory, as they placed all three scorers in the first four home. Rendall won the individual race, ahead of Andrew Mercer in third, with Dan Watts fourth.

The main representative athletics action, at the weekend, was at Loughborough, where the UK School Games took place. Athletes were competing for their region and in the case of the Tonbridge athletes, the South East area.

Alfie Scopes won the Discus, with a throw of 50.28 metres, to make it fifteen wins from sixteen competitions this season. On top of this he has also won eight of his nine Shot Putt competitions.

Zak Skinner ran 11.76 to win the T13 category Paralympic 100 metres, at Loughborough.

Tonbridge will have athletes competing over the weekend at the Kent under 13, veterans and combined events championships, at Erith. At West Wickham the club will have a large number of participants in the Blackheath and Bromley Cross Country relays, which have become the traditional opening fixture for the Autumn season.
