Race Walking Report - 7th May 2016

Tonbridge Athletes Compete in Rome

Tonbridge were well represented at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in Rome this weekend with 2 of the 7 strong team, Tom Bosworth and Guy Thomas, having started their careers under the dedicated coaching of Pete Selby at TAC.

The race started in the shadow of the Colosseum over cobbles and a twisty 10KM road course which was far from flat.

Guy was the second scorer for the under 20 team, placed 19th individually, with a new PB of 42:55, breaking the 1983 club record set by Tim Berrett, for the U20 10K of 43:04.

The U20 team were placed 5th behind Mexico, Peru and Japan.

This is the 3rd International race for Guy this year as he competed previously for England in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He has increased his PB by exactly 20 seconds in both of his last two races.

For those wishing to compete locally in Race Walking, the next TAC Open Meeting on Tuesday 7th June 2016 will include a 1K Walk for ages U13 and upwards.
