Masters Report - 23rd October 2016
This is a low key and seemingly “secret” 10K that is run from Stocks Green School out to Leigh, Egg Pie Lane back to lower street, Philpots lane and then a slightly downhill 1.5k along Noble Tree Road to finish opposite the Flying Dutchman.
Having looked at last year’s results I am not ashamed to admit I went looking for a M50 win for myself!! Found myself in 9th place at half way just behind a TWH runner, who didn’t look 50, but I couldn’t be sure. Luckily he was slower up the hill from Philpots lane and I eased away over the final 1.5k to be first M50 in 38.44, 13 secs ahead of the TWH runner who was M50!!
Richard Bamford was doing his first road 10k and based on the Kent league race at Stanhill Farm he was hoping for 45 minutes. He smashed this time in 43.30 in 30th place overall. He is doing the Beachy Head half marathon next Saturday which will be a different experience to this pretty flat course.
Lucy PK 42.50 ran very close to her PB of 42.40 (London 2016) and narrowly lost out by 1 second for 2nd lady overall, in a sprint finish. However she was first W50, although 2nd W45 to Tina Hissey.
Pat Hollands was looking to get close to his best of around 52mins but after tangling with a bramble could not find the extra gear up the Philpots hill, as he finished in 55.10. Pat’s wife Liz finished in 1.02.45
